Alen Randelov’s book left a lasting impression on me with its many twists and turns and the powerful internal battles that defined the characters, especially Matthias. The story's dark, inevitable tone is something not easily achieved, and it showcases Randelov’s talent. The internal conflicts, paired with the sense of fate weighing heavily on the characters, created an atmosphere of tension that lingered even after I finished reading.
The monologues were a standout feature for me, offering a window into Matthias’s psyche. On top of that each conversation revealed the complexities of his journey, shedding light on his evolving thoughts and emotions.
The structure of the book, which alternates between Matthias’s current old age and his past, was another technique I appreciated. It added complexity to the story, reflecting the internal struggle of reconciling past actions with present realities. This shift in time gave the story a sense of inevitability, as though Matthias’s fate was sealed long before he even realized it.
